Edward Parry (archbishop of the West Indies)
Edward Archibald Parry (1861–1943) was Bishop of Guyana from 1900 until 1921〔(Diocesan history )〕 and Archbishop of the West Indies from 1917 until 1921.
Parry was born into an eminent family, his father was the Rt Revd Edward Parry, Bishop of Dover, and his grandfather was Sir William Parry, Arctic explorer.〔“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 0-7136-3457-X〕 He was educated at Winchester and Oriel College, Oxford,〔(Census details )〕 and ordained in 1884.〔The Times, Wednesday, Dec 24, 1884; pg. 8; Issue 31325; col A ''Ordinations:Diocese of London''〕
After a curacy at St Mary, Acton 〔(Information about church )〕 and a period as Resident Chaplain to the Bishop of Rochester he was Rector of Sundridge and Vicar of St Mark, New Milverton, Leamington〔(Church History )〕 before his elevation to the Episcopate. He was nominated Bishop of Guyana in late 1900, and consecrated bishop by the Archbishop of Canterbury in Canterbury Cathedral 28 December 1900. From the death of his cathedral's dean in 1918 onwards, he was additionally dean of said cathedral, an arrangement which continued until 1937.
